Former international cricketer Ernst Vriens (94) passed away

It is with sadness that we share the news of the passing of Ernst Vriens at the age of 94.

The Dutch cricket community has lost a distinguished cricketer. During the 1950s and 1960s, he represented HCC, the Flamingos and the Netherlands. He was an excellent bowler, renowned for his off-spin, and formed part of a generation of players who helped shape Dutch cricket during that era.

His achievements are part of Dutch cricket history. In 1961, he was awarded the Cramer McLean Cup for an outstanding performance in the Flamingos’ match against Oxford University.

In 1964, he was part of the Dutch team that achieved a historic victory over Australia in The Hague. He took 2-53 in 14.1 overs in that match.

We remember Ernst as a valued member of a remarkable generation of Dutch cricketers. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and fellow cricketers at this sad time.
