- Dutch men lose first T20 warm-up against Sunrisers

With an eye on the upcoming T20 World Cup in June 2024, the Dutch men will play seven friendly matches against franchises that play in the SA20. On Friday, January 5, the first game was scheduled in Gqeberha, the former Port Elizabeth, against Sunrisers Eastern Cape, who won 166-141.
After a weak start from the Sunrisers – the hosts quickly lost Rossington's wicket – the numbers two through five of the batting line-up provided the bulk of the 166 South African runs, with Erwee (39) and Dawson (31 not out) as top scorers. For the Dutch Viv Kingma took 2-33 in three overs; Kyle Klein was economical and effective with 2-18 in three overs.
The fact that the Netherlands made only 25 runs less than the Sunrisers in reply was mainly due to the middle order, with Saqib Zulfiqar (45) and Teja Nidamanuru (25) distinguishing themselves. Zulfiqar and No. 9 batting Wesley Barresi (18) added 39 runs for the eighth wicket.
Captain Scott Edwards will fly to Australia around the tenth of January, as he has been added to the Melbourne Renegades' squad for the Big Bash.
