- Dutch women beat Scotland by a considerable margin
During the European T20 Qualifier in Spain, the Netherlands beat the usually tough opponent Scotland. 68 runs from Sterre Kalis laid the foundation for a challenging 134. Thanks to excellent bowling and fielding, the Scottish women did not get further than 99 all out (Phebe Molkenboer 3-11). With this, the Orange squad has greatly increased its chances of playing the Global T20 Qualifier at the beginning of 2024.
Scotland sent in the Netherlands. Iris Zwilling was unfortunately unable to repeat Wednesday’s heroics. However, Sterre Kalis and Babette de Leede made a partnership of 68 for the second wicket, and there were still plenty of opportunities for the Netherlands on 92/3.
Kalis (68) played a fantastic innings before attempting to play a ramp shot. In the end the Netherlands just fell short of 140 as the scoreboard stopped at 134/6.
Innings Scotland
Soon Iris Zwilling struck twice. Ailsa Lister was caught behind the wicket and young talent Darcy Carter by Eva Lynch on short mid wicket.
The Bryce sisters added only nineteen runs and at 35/3 the Netherlands team was on top. After the seamers Zwilling and Rijke had done a fine job, the spinners took matters into their own hands. One Scottish player after another was caught or stumped (three times). Scotland stumbled to 60/7.
Scotland could not overcome this collapse in the middle order. It was all out for 99 after two perfectly judged catches from Robine Rijke at deep mid wicket. All bowlers had good figures, with Phebe Molkenboer
(3-11) and Caroline de Lange (3-18) as standouts.
On Friday, the Netherlands will take on Italy.
