- Dutch women practice well against Lancs Thunder

A Dutch selection was unable to beat Lancashire Thunder in Manchester on Wednesday afternoon. The Dutch restricted Lancs to 137/5, but stranded on 112 themselves.
There was no toss; the home team was allowed to bat in this friendly game at Sale CC in the south-west of Manchester. It started quite severely in terms of run rate, but the Dutch women fought back admirably. When Sanya Khurana (3-24), who lives in England, was brought into the attack, the momentum changed. In a short time, she took three wickets. It was a merit of the Dutch that Lancashire was limited to 137/5, with 20-year-old Seren Smale (57 not out) as top scorer whilst 21-year-old Liberty Heap made 30 runs off just 19 balls. Iris Zwilling and Hannah Landheer bowled well with 1-24 and 1-29.
Netherlands innings
Phebe Molkenboer (12) played three beautiful drives, but fell victim to a beauty from American left arm seamer Tara Norris. Sterre Kalis opened her proverbial bank account with a well-timed pull shot and beautiful shots through and over the covers as the Netherlands raced to 33/1/4. In the following overs, the Netherlands remained on course for a win, but wickets started to fall, including from Kalis (20) (60/2/7.5) and top scorer Khurana (23). Those blows could not be overcome by the Netherlands.
On Thursday, May 22, the Netherlands will play against the same opponent at 12 noon Dutch time. Follow the match here.
