Dutch women show resilience in T10 series against Jersey
Published at 23 August, 2023A young Dutch women's team showed resilience in Utrecht by coming back from 0-1 in a T10 series. Surprisingly, Jersey won the first game. The other two games were also exciting, but the Orange team managed to win both.
The Netherlands made 68/6 in the first game with captain Iris Zwilling (15) as the top scorer. The Jersey ladies bowled only two wides and three no balls and those would make all the difference as the Dutch bowled four no balls and eleven wides. Hannah Landheer (2-11) and Robin Schmidt (1-10) did come off the field with good figures. Myrthe van den Raad picked up a brilliant one-handed catch at backward point and also caused a run out in the final over that could have been crucial, but was not given. As a result, Jersey was still able to get past the not too high Dutch score.
In the second game, Jersey managed 61/4 (Hannah Landheer 2-10). Robin van Oosterom, Myrthe van den Raad and Fenna Vermeire reached double figures in the successful run chase.
In the third T10 match Hannah Landheer was once again the best bowler, taking 2-5. Seamer Sanya Khurana took two wickets for eleven runs. As a result, Jersey did not get passed 54/7. The Dutch women only bowled three no balls and a wide. Young talent Fenna Vermeire formed the backbone of the Dutch innings with 25 not out whilst Landheer made 12 not out.
