- False start VOC in European T10 league
As the winner of the Dutch T20 Cup in 2022, VOC was sent to the European Cricket League T10 competition, which sees Group B compete for a final spot this week in Cartama, Spain. The rusty-looking ‘Rotterdammers’ started weakly (without Max O'Dowd and Scott Edwards, who are playing Down Under) and did not stand a chance against the Danish Svanholm. Against Indo-Bulgarian, the Rotterdammers also lost, albeit on the last ball of the match.
Batting first was the choice that didn't work out well against Svanholm. For 68, VOC was bowled out. Only Jelte Schoonheim (22) and Pieter Seelaar reached double figures and acceptable strike rates. In just six overs, the Danes surpassed this score.
Indo-Bulgarian managed to make 130/1 on the Rotterdam attack. The single over of the unfortunate Max Hoornweg went for 33. For the Bulgarians, Chris Webster made 81 off only 34 balls. Asief Hoseinbaks held his own with 0-8 in two overs.
Despite thirteen (!) dropped catches and a missed run-out chance from the staggeringly badly fielding Bulgarians, VOC were unable to make 130. The last ball had to go for six for a tie and that didn't happen. Seelaar 35 off eleven, Tim de Kok 51 not out off 27.
After two games, VOC is unfortunately at the bottom of the ranking. On Friday, the Rotterdam squad will take on the Farmers and the American University of Malta.
