- First WPL auction unsuccessful for Dutch players

Amstelveen, February 13, 2023 -- The first auction of players for the Women Premier League in India has not yielded much for players from so-called 'Associate' countries. Only American left-handed seamer Tara Norris was picked up by the Delhi Capitals. Players from the Emirates, Scotland and the Netherlands (Sterre Kalis and Babette de Leede) were left empty-handed.
Of the 448 registered players, a maximum of ninety could be chosen. Eventually 87 were picked, with the five bidding teams only just staying within the maximum amount of USD 1.46 million.
The most expensive players were Smriti Mandhana (340 Lakh, about 380,000 euros), Ash Gardner (320 Lakh) and Nat Sciver (320 Lakh). The five women's teams are from Mumbai, Gujarat, Pune, Bangalore and Delhi. The very first WPL will be played in India in March.
