- Heather Siegers (29) steps away from international cricket

Heather Siegers has announced her retirement from international cricket, effective immediately. As she embarks on an exciting new chapter, starting a new job and pursuing further studies, she’s decided to shift her focus away from the sport she has passionately played for many years.
Although she had hoped to represent the Netherlands in the upcoming T20 World Cup Qualifier in January 2026, her new professional commitments mean she will not be able to take time off to participate.
At 29, Heather has chosen to prioritize her career outside of cricket, a decision that reflects the challenges many players face in balancing sport with work, especially in ICC Associate Member nations where professional contracts are limited.
Heather has been a cornerstone of the Dutch national team from a young age, even captaining the side for several years. Known for her powerful batting, often opening the innings and her versatility with the ball, she began as a medium pacer before transitioning to off spin later in her career. Her stats speak volumes: 28 T20I wickets at an average of 18.28 and an economy of 5.73, alongside 1,081 runs at an average of 20.39 and a strike rate of 115.98, including a memorable unbeaten 106 against Germany in August 2025.
National coach Neil Macrae: “Heather has made a huge contribution to the Netherlands Women's team as both a player and captain over a long international career. Whilst we are disappointed Heather will no longer be taking the field with the Netherlands team, we fully respect her decision and wish her all the best with her new career.”
Women’s Performance Manager, Subir Shrestha: “Heather’s departure is a bittersweet moment for Dutch cricket. While her presence on the field will be missed, her contributions have left a lasting legacy. We wish her all the best in her new journey and thank her for everything she’s given to Dutch women’s cricket.”
