- Logan van Beek about the Dutch men making the T20 World Cup: “I was glued to the TV”

As is so often the case, the Dutch men’s team had to play without several county players in the recent European T20 World Cup Qualifier. We reached out to one of the Netherlands' best all-rounders ever, Logan van Beek, who was playing for his county, Leicestershire.
Logan, how are you? You've been playing for Leicestershire for a while now and are in good form, especially against Nottinghamshire where you took 6-40 in two matches. Furthermore you made 82* batting at eight and 67* against Glamorgan.
Yes, I’ve enjoyed the County season with Leicestershire and I’ve been happy with my contributions over the season.
Have you taken any spectacular catches as well?
Not this season yet, but always ready to pull off something special!
Recently the Dutch men’s team qualified wor the T20 World Cup. Were you concerned about the Dutch making it with so many good players unavailable?
Man, I watched every ball and was glued to the TV. Was I concerned, no, because as a squad over the last few years we have proven we can step up at these important qualifying games.
You played a part in that vs West Indies in 2023 with that legendary Super Over…
That was a memorable day for sure! That whole tournament everyone in the squad and staff contributed to the success of qualifying, a true team effort. Having a good number of county players who can’t make it to all events is always a challenge. But in those cases you need other people to step up, the leadership of Scott, Max and Paul is crucial and the injection of the likes of Kyle Klein and Michael Levitt has been immense. Having the ageless Roelof in the team brought a lot of experience and calm in the key moments in matches, he was crucial against Italy. So… I had faith. It’s a tough competition, but let’s say I was quietly confident. It’s great that the boys made it through.
Did you feel bad about not being there?
Of course you feel guilty and would love to be out there doing battle with the guys. It was a decision I already had to make at the start of the year when the opportunity came up with playing as an Overseas for the Leicestershire for the full season. With the nature of the number of cricket opportunities throughout the year and the constant clashes with tournaments, cricketers are having to make tough decisions where to play. I love representing the Netherlands and have created some of my most memorable memories whilst wearing the Orange!
Will you be available for the T20 World Cup in February and March?
Oh yes, you bet!
Finally, what are our chances at the T20 World Cup?
In the last few years this group has been to four World Cups, so the experience is there. If we can come together and find that magic, I believe we can push for the Finals. That is our goal!
