- Netherlands go down to Scotland in high-scoring game

The Netherlands campaign in the T20I Tri Series got underway on Monday after rain made play impossible the day before.
After winning the toss captain Pieter Seelaar decided to have a bowl, a decision he may have regretted as his bowlers were struggling with their control. Too much width and too many short balls resulted in a record-tumbling performance by Scotland. Their first 100 came up within nine overs and after the 15th over they had shared an opening partnership of a mammoth 200 runs. Shane Snater (3-42/4) managed to stem the flow a bit when he got two wickets in two balls in the 16thover, but by that time the damage had been done. George Munsey remained unbeaten with a career-best of 127*(56), Kyle Coetzer chipping in with a quality knock of 89(50), Scotland 152/3. Fred Klaassen was the only Dutch bowler who went for less than 10 runs an over (0-34/4).
Three overs into the second innings the Netherlands found themselves 3 down for 18 runs and from that moment their chances always looked very slim. Pieter Seelaar batted beautifully however and shared two good partnerships of 44 and 64 with Bas de Leede 19(17) and wicketkeeper Scott Edwards 37(19). His fighting innings deserved a century, but Seelaar stranded on 96* of 49 balls as the Netherlands innings came to a close (194/7). This highest ever Men’s T20I score for the Netherlands couldn’t prevent a 56-run loss to Scotland.
The Netherlands will look to bowl and field a lot better when they face Ireland on Wednesday.
Head coach Ryan Campbell: “Congrats to Cricket Scotland for a great win today, George Munsey and Kyle Coetzer were simply awesome. I’m very proud of our skipper Pieter Seelaar for the highest ever Men’s T20I score for the Netherlands. We learn, we regroup, we bounce back.”
