- Netherlands remain unbeaten in Qualifier
Netherlands 104/5 beat Singapore 101ao by 5 wickets
Needing just 102 runs to make it the third consecutive win of the T20 World Cup Qualifier, the Netherlands lost early wickets when Tobias Visée and Ben Cooper got out within the first three overs. That brought Colin Ackermann to the crease, making his return after having missed the first couple of games due to injury. Together with Roelof van der Merwe he calmly steered his team to victory with 21 balls remaining in 16.3 overs. Opener Max O’Dowd top-scored with 35 from just 31.
O’Dowd 35
Ackermann 34*
van der Merwe 19*
Having won the toss Singapore chose to bat first. It got off to a good start with no wickets lost in the powerplay (35/0) and only one wicket down after ten overs (65/1). But just when Singapore’s two set batsmen looked to kick on, Timm van der Gugten broke the stand by getting the wicket of opener Chandramohan. What followed was another strong performance by the Dutch bowlers, well supported by keeper Scott Edwards who claimed three catches. Singapore only managed to add another 35 runs for the loss of eight wickets, 101ao in 18.5.
van der Gugten 3-9/3
van der Merwe 3-22/4
van Meekeren 2-20/3.5
Glover 2-20/3
Roelof van der Merwe picked up the Man of the Match award for his all-round performance. Mid-tournament the Netherlands are the only unbeaten team. It will face Papua New Guinea on Thursday who are currently ranked second in group A thanks to a very healthy net-run-rate.

Head coach Ryan Campbell: “I’m really pleased with our fantastic bowling and fielding again. Singapore started really well and in those times it’s very easy to panic a little bit, but our pacers hit their lengths and were absolutely outstanding. We should always be able to chase 101 down, but these small run chases can be tricky. We lost a few early wickets and the boys will learn from that. The experience of van der Merwe and Ackermann is invaluable when that happens and they got us home. Very happy to take away the points.”
