- Netherlands women fight back after mediocre batting performance

The Netherlands women were unable to win the first ODI against Ireland. The Dutch were all out for 84, but still managed to take five Irish wickets in the second half of the match.
It was a gorgeous sunny day at VRA.
Ireland won the toss and chose to field first.
The Netherlands started a bit handicapped without their regular captain Heather Siegers (injured) and Sterre Kalis who is active in The Hundred.
Ireland celebrated an early success when Babette de Leede was bowled in the third over.
After that Ireland continued to bowl and field with discipline. The Dutch batters had no answer; after 18 overs it was 37/5.
Frédérique Overdijk batted excellently for 38 but at the end the Netherlands only managed 84 all out, Arlene Kelly taking 3-9.
Cricket Ireland Innings
Ireland wasn’t presented the victory on a plate. Eva Lynch took the ‘prize wicket’ of Gaby Lewis (caught by Gwen Bloemen) and keeper Babette de Leede took no less than four catches.
So it happened that Ireland were 64/5 - a remarkable fightback by the Dutch women.
However, Prendergast and Waldron did not make any more mistakes: 87/5.
The next matches will be on Wednesday at VRA and on Friday at Voorburg CC.
