- Round 5 and 6: rain again, but still a lot of league cricket
The fifth and sixth round of the KNCB Top competitions men and women, played on Saturday and Monday, were affected by the heavy rainfall in Holland at all venues. The fifth round saw a lot of matches unfinished, but two days later the sixth round only saw one match abandoned, HBS - Excelsior'20. For the latter team is was the second wash-out that weekkend. The no. 1 ranked team of VCC completed both matches, winning one vs Sparta 1888, but losing to Punjab CCR. VOC grabbed first place due to an easy win over Dosti CC: VOC 177/6 in a to 30 overs restricted match, Dosti 44 a.o. See below for all the results:
Recap:
VCC:
VCC's Mohit Hingorani: "Two rain affected days, where on Saturday we put on a good showing in the field and with the ball, by restricting Sparta before chasing down the score with a fairly strong batting performance. On Monday against Punjab we were outplayed by the opposition with bat and ball. While this was not the result we were after, we have no doubt that we will bounce back in strong fashion.”
The table as it stands:
VCC women keep winning
Already in the second half of the Hoofdklasse women's competition, in which only 5 teams take part, VCC encountered Quick for the second time this season. The Voorburg win op 1 May at its home ground, didn't mean anything, as Quick is a strong team, which Saturday showed in a strong batting performance first-up: 219/6, topscorers Frederique Overdijk and Robine Rijke with 56 runs each. A superb opening partnership between Babette de Leede (81) and Snehal Phadke (56*) of 158 runs set VCC on the winning way, with VCC-captain Julia Corder, after a rain break, finishing it off with a boundary 4.
