- Stephan Myburgh (38) retires from international cricket

Dutch international Stephan Myburgh retires from international cricket. He wants to spend more time with his family. At club level the 38-year-old lefthander will only sporadically come into action.
Myburgh said goodbye to One Day Internationl cricket in April 2022, but is now also retiring from T20 cricket. He does so at a good time: during the [current] T20 World Cup, the Netherlands not only reached the second round (Super 12), but even achieved a fourth place in the pool – unique in cricket history. In the final match against South Africa, which was won by the Dutch, Myburgh opened excellently, with 37 runs off thirty balls.
"My wife is a teacher and we have a beautiful daughter. I would like to spend more time with them during the summer holidays. That means that in principle I also stop playing club cricket. At most, I will play a match once in a while," Myburgh explains his decision. "I had a fantastic time with the Netherlands team and would like to thank my teammates and coaches with whom I have worked over the years."
Stephan Myburgh was born in South Africa in 1984, but has lived in the Netherlands for many years. He made his debut in South Africa in 2006 for the Northerns, and in September 2011 in The Hague for the Dutch national cricket team. Over the years he played 22 One Day Internationals for the Netherlands. He made 527 runs with an average of 26.35. In addition, he played in 45 T20I's in which he made 915 runs with a strike rate of 114.51.
Myburgh is an attacking left-handed opening batsman. Many will remember Myburgh's performance at the 2014 T20 World Cup. The Dutch had to surpass 190 Irish runs in 14.2 overs to reach the Super 10. With the (at that time) second fastest half century (off seventeen balls) and eventually 63 runs in 23 balls, Myburgh laid the foundation for an unlikely victory. The following Super 10 match against England was won by the Dutch 133-88, thanks in part to 39 runs off 31 balls from Myburgh.
