- Strong Dutch team fails to reward itself

The Netherlands lost the first match of the Emerging Nations Trophy in Thailand to the host country. The Dutch team did everything right, restricting Thailand to 117/7 (Chantham 39), but failed to reward themselves and were all out for 94.
Captain Babette de Leede won the toss and opted to field on a pitch relatively unfamiliar to the Netherlands. In the second over, Robine Rijke had opener Boochatham LBW, and the wickets continued to fall steadily after that, thanks to disciplined bowling and good ground fielding.
Almost all the bowling changes had the desired effect, and when the outstanding Silver Siegers (2-11) cleaned up captain Chaiwai with the finest ball of the day, the score was 54/4/8.5. Thanks to rearguard action from Maya (26 not out), Thailand still managed 117/7. Caroline de Lange took 2-25, giving both Dutch legspinners a good day.
118 seemed an achievable target, but the recently retired Heather Siegers was sorely missed from the batting lineup. Good performances from Babette de Leede (25 from sixteen balls), Robine Rijke (23), and Caroline de Lange (21) were not enough to secure victory for the Dutch team. A legspinner also took the lead for the Thai team (2-11): Suleeporn Laomi.
