- Sybrand Engelbrecht (35) retires from international cricket

Cricketer Sybrand Engelbrecht has put an end to his international cricket career. The Dutch international made his debut for the Netherlands in 2023.
Engelbrecht was born in Johannesburg in 1988. For a long time, he worked on a career as a professional cricketer. For example, the fantastic catch he took (as an U19 player for South Africa) in 2008 went viral.
In 2016 he decided to focus on a career in financial and project management. He came to the Netherlands several years ago for his employer Fairtree, playing club cricket at Voorburg CC, with which he won the Dutch Topklasse championship in 2023.
When the Dutch men's cricket team qualified for the World Cup in India last year, Engelbrecht was selected. He was one of the most successful Dutch batsmen at the World Cup with 300 runs averaging 37.5 (HS 70 against Sri Lanka).
This year, he was part of the Dutch team that participated in the T20 World Cup in the United States and the West Indies. In four innings, he made 98 runs at an average of 24.5. He also took a fantastic outfield catch against Bangladesh.
