- Netherlands women miss out on T20 World Cup qualification
In a must-win game against Ireland, the Netherlands came 19 runs short to keep their chance of qualifying for the World Cup alive.
Batting second the Netherlands needed 121 to win. Sterre Kalis and Heather Siegers got off to a positive start, putting away anything wide and short. Too many dot balls however created some pressure, and supported by their fielders, the Irish bowlers maintained control throughout the Dutch innings. When Miranda Veringmeier departed for an aggressive 28 off 25, the Dutch struggled to find boundaries and stranded on 101/5.
Earlier, Ireland had a difficult start to their innings, losing 3 wickets for 31 runs within 7 overs, all to the Dutch spinners. But then a 50+ partnership between Garth and Delany proved hard to break, and with Richardson scoring freely in the last couple of overs, Ireland was probably the happier with their score of 120/6.
With the second loss of the tournament, the Dutch could no longer qualify for the World Cup.
Ireland 120/6, de Lange 2-28/2
Netherlands 101/5, Kalis 46(58), Veringmeier 28(25)
