- Final T20I belongs to Thailand
The fourth and final T20I between Thailand and the Netherlands was won by the hosts. The Dutch (95/6) were unable to chase 126 Thai runs.
The Dutch chose to field first on a wet outfield. In the fourth over Koncharoenkai became impatient and was caught at mid off. In the same over Chantham made the same mistake: 18/2.
Recovery was forced by Tippoch and Chaiwai who ruthlessly punished bad deliveries. Legspinner Silver Siegers broke the 41-run partnership (Tippoch played on). Maya was Siegers’ next victim: 67/4 in the tenth over.
When Kalis took her second catch it was 81/5. Silver Siegers took a brilliant running catch at cow corner (90/6).
As a result the runrate dropped from seven to just over six per over. All bowlers were successful, of whom Iris Zwilling - who had an excellent Series altogether- took 2-15.
Netherlands innings
The Dutch needed a positive start. Heather Siegers took on the challenge with 28. After the Powerplay the scores were comparable (35 versus 30), but a bit later the required runrate had gone up to eight per over due to several less productive overs.
Despite attempts Kalis (38) did not succeed in keeping the strike and find the boundary regularly. The result was that the target got out of sight quickly. 49 runs off 24 balls was no longer viable; the Dutch managed 95/6.
Coach Shane Deitz:
“It has been a great experience for our young team playing this series in Thailand. Having eight games against a very good experienced opponents was always going to be a huge test. The tour was a chance to take a young team to very unfamiliar conditions and test all aspects of our cricket, so we can develop and learn and begin to work towards our long term goals.”
“We have a special young group of talented players who are new to the world stage particularly in Asian conditions, so this is vital experience.”
“I am very proud of how the girls fought hard and trained hard to get better every day especially after losing a number of games which shows the passion for the team and the cause.”
“We talked about the future and committed to stick together. Now we need to focus on changing the mindset from participating to winning. It’s a normal progression but it’s time to step up now and start beating these teams ranked higher to progress in the world standings.”
